4 Cycling Events January 2022 Spain
The month of January hosts various cycling events, some for profs and others for amateurs, definitely not to lose sight of!
January is a month when the first days of good intentions give way to a January slope where our maximum ambition is in any case to lower the kilos of nougat and to try not to be positive on an antigen test. Fortunately, January is also dominated by a few notable cycling events: some reserved for profs and others open to all audiences (which doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be a little prepared …). Here are the most interesting ones celebrated in Spain this month.
The cycling events in January not to be missed …
- Campeonato de España de Ciclocross
- Club la Santa 4 Stage MTB Lanzarote
- Challenge Ciclista Mallorca
- Costa Blanca Bike Race
Cyclocross is in high season, and after the Kings hangover, we will be able to enjoy the passion of the muddiest cycling in the city of Xativa, Valencia.
In the men’s category, we have to wait and see whether Felipe Orts, who has performed well in recent weeks in the various Christmas seasons of Superprestigio, UCI World Cup and X20 Trophy, can reconfirm his title. If he succeeds, it will be the fourth title in a row that the Alicante cyclist from Brugos BH will add to his showcases. In the Elite Women category, Lucía González is the winner of the last two years.
The event will take place from January 7 to 9, 2022 and can be followed by streaming on the YouTube channel of the Municipality of Xátiva. The elite men and women events will take place on Sundays from 11:55 am.
Without a doubt, the first sporting event of 2022 at Club la Santa is at the same time one of the most anticipated of the year. This MTB event, the only UCI S1 event to take place in the Canaries, marks the start of the calendar so much desired by professional and amateur cyclists.
The Club la Santa 4 Stage MTB Lanzarote will be held from January 22 to 25 and has 4 exciting stages with almost 90% off-road trips. The level of demand for this event? Just mention that it has 205 km and 3,900 m altimeter, to get an idea …
2022 returns to the usual dates for the celebration of what will already be the XXXI edition of the GARDEN HOTELS – LUXCOM Challenge Ciclista Mallorca. A big event to open the European road cycling season, from January 26 to 30, 2022, and which as a novelty (or rather, it is better to call it “renewal”) includes 5 trophies, which has not happened since 10 years. In particular within the Mallorca Cycling Challenge; the Calvià Trophy (154.7 km), the Alcúdia-Port d’Alcúdia Trophy (173.2 km), the Serra de Tramuntana Trophy (158.9 km), the Pollença- Trophy Port d’Andratx (168.9 km) and the Platja de Palma-Palma Trophy (169.1 km).
This year, Garden Hotels has also been included as a main sponsor of the Mallorca Cycling Challenge, and the hotels Playa Garden Selection (accommodation with Cycling Friendly certification) and Alcúdia Garden will host the caravan of cyclists, team staff, team organization or accredited media throughout the test.
The participation of 25 cycling teams has already been confirmed in the Mallorca Cycling Challenge, including 9 from the UCI World Team category, including teams such as the Spanish team Movistar, the UAE Emirates team, the German Bora-Hansgrohe, the French Cofidis or the Belgian Lotto Soudal.
Looks like the last edition of the Costa Blanca Bike Race took place yesterday, right? The reality is that the fact that it had to be postponed several times due to the pandemic led to the 2021 edition being held in November of last year.
However, the organization wanted to return to the most usual dates in 2022, which will start strongly in Altea with the celebration of the Costa Blanca Bike Race from January 27 to 30.
The official accommodation for the race is the certified Cycling Friendly AR Diamante Beach Spa Hotel, located in the heart of Calpe zone 0 and which has facilities perfectly suited for cyclists, including a large Cycling Center.
