Gran Canaria, one of the destinations with a great tourist atmosphere, both for relaxation and excursions focused on the practice of all kinds of sports. Many are connected to the sea, but cycling becomes a real masterpiece. The growing portfolio of cycling services in Gran Canaria has contributed immensely to its growth and to the number of cycle paths, whether on road or by MTB, making it an idyllic destination.
If you are ready to enjoy your stay in one of the specialized hotels for cyclists, so much the better. Here are a few that might interest you.
One of the things that most visitors to the Marina Elite Resort fall in love with is undoubtedly its enclave, perched on the Balito Beach hillside. A privileged environment with superb views to simply enjoy for hours. In addition, it is in a great location, just 5 minutes by taxi from central Puerto Rico and Arguineguín, and 10 minutes walk from Anfi beach.
Ideal starting point for a range of cycle routes to iconic enclaves such as Barranquillo Andrés, Las Presas, Ayagaures or Playa de San Nicolás. And up to Pico de las Nieves, although this route is another story ...
Different room types can be adapted to suit all budgets. And of course, it has all the necessary services for cyclists: bicycle parking, tool shop, gym, and two pools ideal for a good and well-deserved dip after finishing our day's route through Gran Canaria.
The New Folias Hotel is another Cycling Friendly accommodation to enjoy in Gran Canaria. Located in Maspalomas, this hotel is on a southeast-facing summit, very close to San Agustín beach.
This hotel has a heated outdoor pool, a massage area, a garden, a healthy breakfast and, of course, all the necessary cycling services in its Cycling Center. From the Hotel New Folias you can enjoy the routes to Tasartico, Agüimes or San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in addition to the aforementioned Pico de las Nieves, the major challenge for anyone visiting Gran Canaria.
The TUI BLUE Orquídea hotel in Gran Canaria is located near the famous Playa del Inglés and only 15 minutes from Gran Canaria airport. A perfect place to start with challenging cycle routes of Gran Canaria, such as Arteara, Barranquillo Andrés or Ayagaures.
Moreover, as a hotel it has it all: 2 pools for adults, SPA area and different sports facilities on the premises, including its attractive Cycling Centre where you can comfortably tune up your bike.
The Hotel Suites & Villas by Dunas is one of those establishments that has the word pleasure engraved on its walls. It is a place where you can totally disconnect and relax like in few other places. Located in Maspalomas, very close to the Natural Park of the Maspalomas Dunes, this accommodation is Cycling Friendly GOLD certified. This means that it has absolutely everything a cyclist needs for a perfect stay: a spacious Cycling Centre with a tool workshop for bike tuning, and in addition a bike rental service.
From Hotel Suites & Villas by Dunas, you can start attractive routes such as Risco Blanco, Pico de Bandama, El Doctoral, and the one so emblematic for the inhabitants of Gran Canaria, Roque Nublo or Ayagaures.
In Agaete, in the north of Gran Canaria, you will find the Hotel & Spa Cordial Roca Negra, another GOLD Cycling Friendly accommodation with endless facilities for cyclists and non-cyclists. Like the rest, its location is overwhelming: built into a cliff from which you can glimpse Mount Teide and the Tamadaba Natural Park. A landscape of sea and mountains as singular as it is fascinating, which we will be forced to cross by bicycle.
The hotel offers 140 rooms with large terraces, and a cozy and elegant interior design. They have two on-site restaurants, El Juncal and the Rockstop Skybar, with stunning panoramic views. And of course the Obsidiana Spa is a luxury that we will certainly appreciate after a demanding cycle route.
From Hotel & Spa Cordial Roca Negra we can start cycling routes to El Toscón, El Brezal, Faro de Sardina or Montañón Negro. Some are easier routes, others are more challenging... such as the climb to Pico de las Nieves. And for the record, we're not repeating ourselves because we hate Pico de las Nieves, but because we believe it's important to point out its difficulty.
And which is your favourite?
