Cycletouring in Spain

Why Spain as a cycling destination?

Spain has a pleasant climate and more than 300 sunny days a year. That means that every moment is excellent to enjoy the benefits of Spain.

However, not all areas are recommended at the same time. For example, if you choose to enjoy a cycling holiday in Mallorca, the best option is from February to May and from September to November. On the other hand, if you are traveling to Lanzarote or Tenerife, the months of October to January are ideal, although their stable climate throughout the year makes them almost always suitable for cycling.

And if you’re betting on a cycling getaway in northern Spain, the months with the best weather conditions are those between May and October.

What are the best regions for cycling in Spain?

Spain offers a wide range of destinations that are committed to the practice of cycling, whether road cycling, MTB or Gravel.

If you are a lover of coastal scenery but full of good climbs, Majorca, the Canary Islands, the Costa Blanca, the Costa Brava or the Costa del Sol are the best spots. If you are a fan of harsh and overwhelming mountains, Asturias or the Pyrenees are unique destinations for their beauty and challenging climbs. Cycling certain routes with your road bike is a unique experience.

Spain is also a unique area full of greenways for cycling. Greenways are old disused railway lines that have been restored so that they can be used for walking or cycling. You can find greenways in Álava, Albacete, Alicante, Almería, Badajoz, Cáceres, Cádiz, Cantabria, Córdoba, Girona, Guipúzcoa, Jaén, La Rioja, Murcia, Madrid, Navarre and Majorca, etc.
