Etapa 8 de la Ruta dels Bons Homes

Description

Final day with the option of visiting Rocafixade Castle and enjoying a dinner on Foix adds a perfect touch to conclude an epic day, especially for those who have overcome the great challenge of the road of the Bons Homes in BTT. This last stage is a clear example of a route that requires being approached with patience, especially with the ascent to the base of Montsegur Castle at the beginning, due to a different itinerary than recommended to walk, it reminds us of patience once again . Overcome the entrance to the castle enclosure, we definitely say goodbye to the G.T. Ariege Pyrenees, who has accompanied us during most of the last two stages, to enter a fabulous path and something technical, in shade and following the course of a riera that brings us closer to Montferrier, with the exception of a brief section of road. Montferrier’s departure is done through an entrepreneur and vertical path, initially difficult to pedal, which becomes more affordable as it gains height, crossing the road several times. Those who look for a technically easier alternative can opt for the road that goes to Freychenet for the Col de la Lauze, meeting the original path. On that same road, we will definitely abandon the road after 50 meters to enter a short track that will take us to the next section of descent: another technical and gloomy path, with a peculiar start along a kind of dry riero that soon It makes us more evident and leads us to contest (source before the town). For the next section, we will cross the main road (D117) to immerse ourselves in the forest, facing a steep climb followed by an equally technical but beautiful descent. It should be noted that this section can be in poor condition after rains. Next, we will travel through a stretch of asphalt and track in good condition until we reach the battle monument (Roquefixade), finally descending to the town of Rocafixade and through the base of its castle. A new technical path, this time exposed and with impressive views, will guide us to the peaceful people of Leychert. The last stretch of the route combines technically simple roads and tracks (although some are physically demanding) with some vertical descent trails that will take us to Montgailhard. Temporarily, this is the end of the route until the problem that prevents the GR-107 to recover its original layout to Foix is solved. From Montgailhard to Foix, only 4 km of asphalt remain, some of them per bike lane.
