Majorca is a mecca for triathletes. It is not surprising that in addition to the Challenge Peguera-Mallorca, there are other highly renowned triathlons, such as Porto Colom or the IRONMAN in Alcúdia.

Obviously enjoying Majorca as a triathlon lover gives your experience a plus, so before we get started here is our Mallorca cycling guide. Providing detailed information on the best cycling accommodations, routes, climbs, coffee stops…. And all this for free.

Why experience the Challenge Peguera-Mallorca?

If there is one thing that the Challenge organisers show is that they like to take care of everything down to the last detail, to make the triathlete’s experience unique, practically from the moment they pick up the race bib. And the fact is that an endless number of activities are scheduled around the event that make the atmosphere even more festive. Activities such as the Junior Challenge Mallorca, a children’s race held the day before the race; the Challenge Women Mallorca, a 4.3 km race; and even a “correfoc”, a typical activity on the island in which the Majorcan “dimonis” run through the streets dressed with torches and other very folkloric elements. If you come to the island to participate in the Peguera-Mallorca Challenge, we recommend to spend several days in Majorca to enjoy these and other activities.

And if we focus on the circuit, with its swimming segment through the calm waters of Playa de Torà beach, a very complete cycling segment through charming towns like Es Capdellà and a running circuit along the promenade that connects the beaches of Torà, Els Morts and La Romana, we will have the perfect cocktail to make the most of this great event.

When is the Challenge Peguera-Mallorca 2022 scheduled?

Mark the date well because the next Challenge Peguera-Mallorca is scheduled on October 18, 2025.

What are the distances and routes?

Currently there is only the Half Distance modality in this triathlon. The tour starts with two laps on the busy Playa de Torá. Here, the athletes will cross the bay of Peguera to return to the sandy beach Playa de Torá, then move on to the transition zone. Since 2022, a novelty has been introduced: this section is run in two laps so that the athletes don’t have to move so far away from Peguera Bay and can let the warmth of the spectators get closer to them.

The cycling segment of the Challenge Peguera-Mallorca is made up of 2 laps of 45 km with a technical and varied character along the coast of the municipality of Calvià, guaranteeing fast sections (up to 70 km/h) and with little slope (approx. 480 m). Starting from Peguera to the pretty village of Es Capdellà, from there towards Calvià to descend along the Son Pillo road, crossing the well-known areas of El Toro and Santa Ponça before returning to Peguera.

The running segment will take place over 4 laps between the Peguera boulevard and the Peguera beach promenades (Tora, Els Morts and La Romana). A final section in which the participants can savour the end of the race in a circuit that is not too demanding.

Where can I stay for the Challenge Peguera-Mallorca?

For the occasion, we recommend staying as close to the starting point of the race as possible. And in this case it’s no less than the city of Peguera, where you can fortunately enjoy a wide range of cycling accommodations to rest and get your bike ready for the race in their Cycling Centers. All these accommodations have our Cycling Friendly certification, which makes them accredited. Likewise, with any accommodation within the municipality of Calvià, one is quite close to the racing area. It certainly won’t be for lack of options.

Race recommendations to consider

Why deny it: October is one of our favourite months when it comes to explore the island, especially by bike or a triathlon like the Challenge Paguera-Mallorca. During this month the temperature on the island is usually between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius with sunny days. However, it is also one of the rainiest months on the island, so we would do well to check the weather forecast for the previous days. In case a downpour hits and we are not prepared for battle.

Although a Half Distance event with no major slopes, any triathlon is challenging enough to be taken lightly. Get a pre-race medical and don’t just show up on race day. A pre-race training plan is a must, and it doesn’t hurt to explore the terrain in the days leading up to the race by extending your stay in Mallorca.
