30/03/2023 12:00 am

Description

On April 1, 2 and 3, 2022, a new edition of the Girona MTB Challenge will return, the MTB festival. It is an event boasting the essence of this sport in Girona for three days, with 3 marked MTB-routes.

The goal of the Girona MTB Challenge is not so much to create an event based on competitiveness, but to allow the participants’ experience to leave its mark in an event that the organizers define as the most sustainable MTB-event in the world.

The stages

Stage 1

The first stage with start and finish at Pavelló Girona-Fontajau. The participants will have to overcome 49 kilometers, reaching more than 1000 meters of positive slope and 2000 of cumulative slope.

The terrain passes to 70% in singletrack, 20% in track and only 5% in tarmac, in a fully marked course. Arrival time is 5 h.

Stage 2

The second stage of the Girona MTB Challenge is considered the main stage of the event. It starts and finishes at Pavelló Girona Fontajau, with a length of 79 km, of which 70 km will be timed. The last 9 km will be the neutralised section and will not be marked, so the use of GPS is recommended.

In total, this second stage will have 1,500 metres of positive slope and over 3,000 metres of cumulative slope. The terrain will have exactly the same characteristics as the day before: 70% singletrack, 20% track and 5% asphalt. The max arrival time is 6 h. The course will be fully signposted until km 70.

Stage 3

The last stage of the Girona MTB Challenge will also start and finish at Pavelló Girona-Fontajau. In this case, the distance to be covered will be 56 kilometres, with a cumulative slope of 2,800 metres and a positive slope of 1,400 metres.

The terrain is the same in percentage as the two previous stages, and the arrival time is 5.5 h.
