Balmaseda – Guggenheim Bilbao

Description

The route starts in Balmaseda, the oldest town in Biscay, and continues to Artziniega (Araba) between impossible turns and some of the most rural landscapes.

From here we arrive in Gordexola, still in Biscay, following a route dotted with farmhouses, luxurious Indian mansions and tower houses from the Middle Ages. The district of Sodupe (Güeñes) will be our next destination. Following the course of the Kadagua River, we reach Alonsotegi, one of the steepest places in Biscay, located on the slopes of the mythical Ganekogorta and Pagasarri mountains.

At this point, we briefly say goodbye to Enkarterri to enter Bilbao, with its Guggenheim Museum. From there we begin the return journey. We repeat the trip to Sodupe, where we turn to the central core of Güeñes and immediately after to Zalla.

Near Otxaran we will pass the largest txakoli vineyard in the Basque Country and after a few more kilometers we will be back at our starting point and will have covered the 75 kilometers of the route.
