Penedès 360 – Back Roads

Description

Historically, roads have served to unite towns. Over time, they have become the tool that allows us to escape from the big cities. And since there are many people who leave, the roads are small and we have to build motorways, motorways, expressways… Everything to easily go from one side to the other. But what do road cyclists want? We look for small, quiet, paved roads, with affordable or sometimes not so affordable gradients, motivating landscapes, welcoming villages… Well, this is the Penedès 360 Back Roads: the opportunity to travel and discover the Gran Penedès by bike road A circular route through the countryside of the Penedès (Alt Penedès, Baix Penedès, Garraf and Anoia) with "incursions" in the Alt Camp.

It is a circular route of 200 kilometers full of contrasts that connects the territory. From the mountains of the interior, to the Mediterranean Sea, passing through the plain of the Penedès always accompanied by fields of vineyards. From the touristic beach towns such as Sitges and Vilanova and la Geltrú, to the quiet inland towns, sheltered between mountains, such as Pontons, la Llacuna or Sant Joan de Mediona. From the more than 65,000 homes in Vilanova and Geltrú to just over 500 in Pontons.

The route includes essential sections of the Penedès for road cycling, such as the classic climbs to the Col de les Ventoses or Font-Rubí, or the passage along the Pantà de Foix road and the beautiful town of Castellet, but it also covers rural roads paved and quiet local roads, less popular and so characteristic of the area.

The departure and arrival point is located in Vilafranca del Penedès, but it could be any other town or city that includes the route, being able to adapt it to the needs and objectives of each one and according to the services we need.

It can be done leisurely in four days, but you can also complete it in three or even two days. You will find accommodation along the route, and different types of services in the towns you pass through. So check where you have accommodation and make your own and tailor-made route in order to enjoy the Gran Penedès on two wheels.
