Port de Sóller – Puig Major – Orient
Description
Route and climbs: Port de Sóller – Puig Major – Coll de sa Batalla – Caimari – Mancor de la Vall – Biniamar – Lloseta – Alaró – Orient – Bunyola – Coll de Sóller (Palma) – Port de Sóller.
One of the unmissable routes for anyone staying at Port de Sóller (in this case at the spectacular Jumeirah Port de Sóller Hotel & Spa), is the ascent to the colossal Puig Major, the island’s longest climb.
A real challenge all the way, especially considering that the 14.5-km climb starts right from the beginning of this route. Once you’ve climbed to top, you descend through one of Mallorca’s most beautiful areas, taking in the Cúber and Gorg Blau reservoirs.
After some short climbs and descents, you arrive at Coll de sa Batalla, one of the most popular places for cyclists on the whole island, and then descend to Caimari, where you turn immediately right and continue to Mancor de la Vall. From there, through Biniamar, and on towards Lloseta to tackle the short climb from Tofla to Alaró, then the start of the penultimate climb of the route.
Although its slopes are not particularly steep, the 6.9-km ascent to Orient means quite a challenge after the amount of vertical gain already made along the route. After this, the newly surfaced descent to Bunyola via Coll de Honor leads to the route’s final climb, another of Mallorca’s iconic mountain passes, Coll de Sóller, from the Palma side. Another regular climb, but yet more kilometres of ascent to tire your legs before you can finally enjoy the descent to Sóller and return to Port de Sóller.
