February, the month of vibrant event cycling in Spain. Here are the best.
After a rather calm month of January, with few events for amateur cyclists and a racing calendar focused almost exclusively on the CycloCross season, several very interesting MTB events start in February, highlighting the premiere of La Leyenda de Tartessos in Huelva. Likewise, in February we will enjoy up to 3 Vueltas in Spain, that of the Comunitat Valenciana, that of Andalusia and that of Murcia, a prelude to the two most powerful in Spain: Volta a Catalunya (March) and the Itzulia or Vuelta al Pais Vasco (April).

Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana
La Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana Gran Premi Banc Sabadell 2022 is pushing hard in February, hosting 15 of the 23 UCI WorldTeam teams and with names such as Jakob Fuglsang, Mikel Nieve, Juan Ayuso or Alejandro Valverde already confirmed.
From February 2 to 6, some of the best road cyclists of the UCI circuit will tour Valencian lands, 4 days of pure cycling that will end with a promising sterrato in the Antenas del Maigmó. The race can be followed live through Eurosport and GCN+, for which first-class coverage is expected to follow the event up to the minute.
On 23 January, the prelude to this Tour was the Clásica de la Comunitat Valenciana, whose victory went to the Italian rider Giovanni Lonardi, of the Eolo-Kometa Team, led by the Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador. A victory obtained in a quite eventful end of the race, with falls with 3 kilometres to go that broke the peloton; and also with the spectacular fall in the final straight of the finish line of some cyclists, being the worst off the also Italian Niccolo Bonifazio.

La Leyenda de Tartessos wants to start in style, trying to live up to its name in its first edition: LEGEND. Of course, if we measure it by the success with 400 registered participants, and the number of well-known names, with the presence of Carlos Coloma, Valentí Sanjuán, Saleta Castro, Ana Belén Ibáñez, Emilio Martín (triple world champion and European duathlon champion), Tiago Ferreira (European XCM champion), Abraham Olano or Haimar Zubeldia (third in the Tour de France on two occasions), we can only expect a show that could be more than memorable.
Participants registered for this MTB event, scheduled for February 3-6 in Huelva, will have the opportunity to compete in the Ruta de la Luz, Ruta de la Frontera, Ruta del Metal and Crono del Atlántico, all on cycling wrapped in a magical scenery.
The nerve center for the occasion is the Hotel Fuerte el Rompido, an accommodation with the Cycling Friendly Silver label in which participants will feel very welcome in a 100% cycling environment. The first and the last stage of La Leyenda de Tartessos take place in the same hotel, located on the hill over the Río Piedras nature reserve, surrounded by an environment full of nature.

Vuelta Ciclista a la Región de Murcia
The Cycling Friendly community of the Region of Murcia will host the Vuelta Ciclista a la Región de Murcia Costa Cálida Gran Premio Banco Sabadell in February, the main attraction will be the participation of the winner Alejandro Valverde, who didn’t want to miss the opportunity to compete in this race, in his home country, in the year of his retirement.
The route of this one-day race starts in Fortuna and ends in Cartagena, 188 km including the climb to the Alto Collado Bermejo, a special pass at almost 1,200 m.
The event, which will take place on February 12th, can be followed live on Eurosport.
When and where?: On February 12, 2022 in the Region of Murcia.
One of the most traditional events on the UCI calendar is undoubtedly the Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucía. Its 68th edition will bring together 8 of the 10 best teams on the WorldTour scene, and confirmations have already emerged such as Mikel Landa, the super-promising Juan Ayuso, Simon Yates, Alejandro Valverde or the more than likely participation of Supermán López, already separated from the ranks of Movistar, who will try to revalidate the title won in 2021.
The event is cheduled from February 16 to 20 and can be viewed on Eurosport and Canal Sur.
When and where?: From February 12 to 16, 2022 in Andalusia.
From 10 to 13 February Oropesa de Mar hosts a new edition of the Mediterranean Epic MTB, one of the most famous races and whose organization deploys every year its greatest efforts to ensure that participants enjoy all possible comforts. 4 days in which those registered will be able to cycle with the MTB Marathon World Champion, Andreas Seewald, a luxury ambassador for this race.
The competition has a starting time trial of 16 kilometres on the first day, while the 3 successive days have 3 distances between 50 and 93 kilometres, starting in Castellón and finishing in Oropesa de Mar. One of the events of the year that MTB enthusiasts have marked on the calendar.
When and where?: From February 10 to 13 in Oropesa de Mar, Comunitat Valenciana.
Scheduled on February 12 and 13, Gran Canaria hosts a new and highly anticipated edition of the Epic Gran Canaria. The race has two exceptional sponsors, such as Abraham Olano and Matti Helminen, Spanish and Finnish cycling legends respectively. An event in which you can participate either in both stages or only in one of them, in a route with two time trials: the climb to Ayagaures and the section from Pasito Blanco to Ayacata, which will encourage the participants to achieve top performance.
When and where?: February 12 and 13 in Gran Canaria.
