Top 10: Triathlons in Spain
Triathlon in Spain is in such good health that it is difficult to choose the top 10.
Spain is home to the finest landscapes and has definitely become a key top region for Triathlons. As a result, there are plenty of events for triathletes that are gaining a foothold on the map of the most sought-after.
Whether under the ICAN, Challenge, IRONMAN, TradeInn, Mediterranean label… they all strive to offer a unique experience to participants, revealing dream locations and where, for a day (or more when we talk about ultraman distance triathlons… ), there is absolute communion with this discipline which is so complete and so demanding for the athletes.
We know that choosing 10 triathlons means not mentioning many who certainly deserve this list, but here are 10 Triathlon proposals that could be your next challenge. Fancy any?
- ICAN Alicante
- Half Triatlón Sevilla
- Challenge Mogán
- IRONMAN Lanzarote
- Mediterranean Epic Triathlon
- TradeInn International Triathlon 140.6INN
- IRONMAN Mallorca
- Triathlon Porto Colom
- IRONMAN Barcelona
The ICAN Triathlon in Alicante allows you to enjoy (well, maybe enjoy might not be the right word for a Triathlon) the calm and crystal clear waters of Playa del Postiguet, added to a demanding bike segment on the way to Maigmó, and running along the Alicante promenade crowded with people who will support you in the last kilometres.
This event in the heart of Alicante also allows two ways to participate: Half and Aquabike, being able to save you the running segment in this last modality if swimming and cycling are enough for you.
The Andalusian capital could not miss a great triathlete event, and this is the Half Triathlon Sevilla, which in 2022 reaches its ninth edition. A Triathlon whose route is designed to give the maximum spectacularity to the event, with a running segment entirely through the city centre and a swimming segment in the Guadalquivir River. It is not surprising that in the last kilometers more than one entrusts himself to the Virgen de la Macarena to overcome this challenge.
Mogán has managed to gain prestige among triathletes thanks to the Challenge Mogán de Gran Canaria, recognized as the best race venue under the Challenge label's challenges. A luxurious temperature, a beach like Anfi del Mar, with its white sand and calm waters, ideal for our triathlete challenge, and a 10-star organization, deserving to be on the list of top triathlete events in Spain. In addition, we can participate in Olympic and Middle distance, and in the latter also Relay. A Triathlon delight in Gran Canaria!
The Club la Santa IRONMAN Lazanrote 70.3 is one of the most coveted triathlons of Spain. The spectacular nature of the island and the possibility of crossing some of the best beaches, trails, sand and lava fields in Lanzarote mean that many people want to participate every year. An event that this year celebrates its thirtieth edition, making it one of the most traditional Triathlons in Spain.
With a luxury ambassador such as Javier Gómez Noya by the hand, Oropesa de Mar hosts the Mediterranean Epic Triathlon, an event in which participants can enjoy this Medium-distance Triathlon in a unique location on the Costa Blanca. An event that will award up to 8,000 euros to the winners.
The Tradeinn International Triathlon 140.6INN is, in addition to its very long name, is an event growing with the strength of its youth. This Long distance Triathlon starts and ends in Platja d'Aro and crosses some of the most emblematic points of Girona and the Costa Brava, such as Coll de la Ganga, Madremanya, Bisbal d'Empordà and Romanyà de la Selva. A Triathlon that seems to be here to stay!
From island to island and I'll take my chances. Mallorca has several events for triathletes that tend to sell out quickly, and the IRONMAN of Mallorca both in its 70.3 version and the IRONMAN distance, gather a large number of participants every year. With Port d'Alcúdia as the epicentre of this triathlon, you can't expect anything but pure spectacle in one of the busiest cycling areas of the island in Spain.
We don't leave Mallorca but we do move to another part of the island, in this case to Porto Colom, to experience another of the great events for triathletes. This is an event that allows you to participate in the distances of 55.5 and 111 kilometres respectively, with a swimming segment in the welcoming port of Porto Colom, a cycling segment whose main attraction is climbing Sant Salvador, and a running segment that reaches the iconic lighthouse of the port. Undoubtedly a Triathlon made to wrap yourself in the best sport in a scenery of great beauty in Mallorca.
Barcelona could not be without its Triathlon event par excellence, and the IRONMAN label knows it well. Thus, the town of Calella, located in the province of Barcelona, welcomes every year triathletes who aspire to conquer this new stronghold and add it to their list of great successful challenges. During last year's editions of the IRONMAN and the 70.3 distances, up to 6,500 athletes immersed themselves in the waters of the Maresme and crossed some of its roads.
If you're looking for epic challenges, the Infinitriman Triathlon is your chance to test yourself in one of the two modalities: Ultraman or Half Ultraman. An event only suitable for the best prepared athletes. The Ultraman modality leads us to overcome 3 extremely hard stages in which the town of Castellón is responsible for hosting the most daring. In other words: a Triathlon of big words.
