Description

The Sparkassen Münsterland Giro is a one-day cycling event in Münster, in the Münsterland region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Alongside the professional race, the organiser stages amateur races (the “LeezenCups”, open to everyday riders rather than licensed pros) over 65, 95 and 125 km. The organiser’s route pages give the next edition as Sunday 3 October 2027. All three amateur routes start on the Prinzipalmarkt in Münster and finish in front of Münster Castle, and the organiser describes them as closed courses through the Münsterland. Note that the route details below are those of the 2026 edition; the organiser had not yet published the 2027 courses when we checked.

Routes and distances

Three amateur races are offered, all starting in the old town of Münster. The organiser publishes no elevation figures for them; the routes in 2026 ran from largely flat to rolling.

The Cup der Sparkasse Münsterland Ost covers 65 km and is described by the organiser as mostly flat, with only a few metres of climbing. In 2026 it ran via Roxel, Schapdetten, Billerbeck and Darfeld, with a minimum average speed of 26 km/h.

The Cup der Provinzial Versicherung covers 95 km. In 2026 it had several longer rolling sections with recurring moderate climbs, via the Baumberge, Darup, Hastehausen, Westhellen and Häger. The minimum average speed is 28 km/h.

The Cup der LBS is the longest route at 125 km, with long climbs and many rolling sections. In 2026 it went deep into the Baumberge hills west of the city, via Billerbeck, Darup, Rorup, Coesfeld, Darfeld and Höpingen, before a final loop to Nienberge and back towards Münster. The organiser names no individual climbs and quotes no gradients, and the minimum average speed is 29 km/h.

Riders below the minimum average speeds are removed from the race. In 2026 there was one feed station on each of the 95 km and 125 km routes (water, energy bars, fruit) and none listed for the 65 km route. The first 3 km in 2026 were a neutral roll-out, with timing starting at the “scharfer Start” on the Kolde-Ring. GPX files of the 2026 routes are available on the organiser’s route pages.

Registration

Online registration for 2027 opened on 3 October 2026 at 08:00, with individual and team entry (teams from four riders). The entry fee rises in tiers as more riders register: the organiser lists, for example, €75 / €85 / €95 / €105 for 65 km, €80 / €90 / €100 / €110 for 95 km and €85 / €95 / €105 / €115 for 125 km, apparently tied to the number of entries. The organiser’s homepage reports that a large share of the 2027 places went soon after registration opened, so enter early. In 2026, bibs were issued at the Mensa am Ring in Münster on the day before the race and early on race morning.

Full details are on the official website.

Why ride it

The start on the Prinzipalmarkt and the finish in front of Münster Castle put the whole event in the historic centre of the city. The organiser describes the courses as closed roads through the Münsterland, with climbs in the Baumberge hills and rolling terrain. In 2026 the finish area, the LeezenCampus at the Schlossplatz, offered refreshments, a screen showing the professional race and a medal pick-up, and the amateur races share the day with the professional race, the children’s races and the Girolino.

Where to stay

The start is on the Prinzipalmarkt in Münster’s old town, and in 2026 bibs were handed out at the Mensa am Ring on the day before the race and early on race morning, so a base in or near the city centre keeps things simple.
