Infinitriman
Description
Infinitriman is a three-day Ultraman-format triathlon held in the province of Castellón, on Spain’s Valencian Mediterranean coast. The most recent edition confirmed by the organiser, the seventh, took place from Thursday 19 to Saturday 21 October 2023. The date of the next edition has not been announced yet.
Routes and distances
The event offers two formats, both run over three stages on consecutive days:
- Ultraman: a 10 km swim, a 421 km bike ride and a double marathon run of about 84 km, with a 12-hour time limit each day. Each athlete is supported by a two-person crew.
- Half Ultraman: the same three-stage structure at half the Ultraman distances each day.
Registration
No entry details are available for a new edition at the moment. Registration information is published by the organiser, Infinitri, on the official website. Places have historically been very limited: the organiser reported 25 spots per distance for the 2023 edition.
Why race it
Few events ask so much of an athlete over so many consecutive hours. In 2023, Mikel Otaegi won the Ultraman for the fifth year running in 22 hours 14 minutes, while Carolina Granfors of Finland was the first woman home in 26 hours 15 minutes. With a daily cut-off, recovery between stages is as decisive as raw fitness. The date of the next edition has not been announced yet.
Where to stay
A three-day Ultraman rewards riders who sleep close to the action. Staying on the Castellón coast lets you arrive the day before, collect your bib without rushing and reach the start line rested, while a proper recovery routine between stages matters as much as the miles themselves. The seaside resorts of Benicàssim and Orpesa, a short transfer from Castellón de la Plana, are well used to athletes and endurance camps.
Hotel Intur Bonaire – Benicàssim, about 9 km from the start. The four-star Bonaire shares a professional cycling centre with its sister hotel, an enclosed space to store, clean and repair your bike, alongside bike rental, repair tools and bike wash. After a long stage there is a 25-metre heated pool, a Technogym gym, massage and laundry for your kit.
Hotel Intur Orange – Benicàssim, about 9 km from the start. Just 200 metres from the Bonaire, the Orange has served as an official hotel for editions of the Vuelta a España, so riders’ routines are second nature here. Expect a secure, monitored bike room, a 25-metre indoor pool, a spa and picnic service, plus route information for planning shakeout rides on the quiet roads inland.
Hotel Marina d’Or Playa – Orpesa, about 20 km from the start. This sea-view four-star holds the Bike Territory certification of the Spanish Cycling Federation and offers a Bike Station of almost 300 m with individual boxes for equipment. It also has a gym, spa, pool, laundry and a buffet designed for athletes, which suits the heavy fuelling an Ultraman demands.
