Why enjoying the Lanzarote IRONMAN experience?

Quite simply: it is one of the most emblematic triathlons in the world, an island with a special magic that only those who experience it can witness, and also a great challenge. In other words, if you are looking for huge challenges, IRONMAN Lanzarote is undoubtedly one of those events that easily ranks in the top 10 sporting events that really can mark your life. Indeed: you will be the person who tells your family, friends and any stranger you meet on the street day in day out about how spectacular IRONMAN Lanzarote is.

When is the IRONMAN Lanzarote 2023 scheduled?

The 2023 edition of IRONMAN Lanzarote is scheduled on May 20.

Distances and routes

In addition to the IRONMAN distance, Lanzarote also hosts the IRONMAN Lanzarote 70.3 every year, although on earlier dates. The next edition is scheduled on 18 March 2023, so if you think this challenge is too big for you, you can always opt for its little brother.

Regarding the IRONMAN challenge route, the swimming circuit runs completely along Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen. The bike segment crosses the island from end to end. It can be said that this segment is the toughest of the entire triathlon, with climbs over 2.500 m. During this segment, we'll cross locations such as Mirador del Río, Teguise, Los Helechos or La Asomada, climbs that will really put us to the test.

Once challenged the cycling segment, all that remains is a short 42-kilometre push between Puerto del Carmen and Arrecife. Fortunately, there are no slopes and that will help us to get energy where there is none during the next three laps.

In short: just a mere formality, isn't it?

Registration fee and how to register?

There are 3 registration fees for IRONMAN Lanzarote. In the first price range, the cost is 499 euros until June 30, 2022. Once that range is exceeded, the price rises to 549 euros until January 9, 2023. Finally, from that date until 1 May is 599 euros. You can sign up through its website.

Bike rental for the IRONMAN Lanzarote?

Whether renting a bike for the event or training on the island, you're at the right place. At Cycling Friendly, we have rental bikes all over Spain with the possibility of delivering them to the same place where you are staying.

Where can I stay during IRONMAN Lanzarote?

Hotel Sentido Aequora Lanzarote Suites

Wow, what a twist of fate, in Cycling Friendly you can find specialist cycling accommodations for cyclists and triathletes in Lanzarote, some located almost at the starting line of the race, in Puerto del Carmen. The difference to other accommodations is that they own cycling centers with a tool station to fine-tune your bicycle. In addition, comfort will be guaranteed, a real need after finishing the race …

Pre-race recommendations to consider?

One, the wind. Two, the wind. Three, the wind. More than one of us can't stand the wind, and it's something we don't always keep in mind as a key factor in our training. Bearing in mind that the average wind speed during a normal month of May in Lanzarote is around 11 km/h, we believe that it's a very important factor, especially in the cycling sector. So during your training, and on windy days: get out there and show your worth.

IRONMAN Lanzarote is one of the toughest in Spain (if not the most challenging), so training has to suit the conditions. BEWARE of the cycling segment, with nearly 2,500 m altimetry which, when we add the wind, forms a combo of the last video game monster.
