Volta a Menorca BTT

11/10/2024 8:00 am

Description

The 15th edition of the Volta a Menorca BTT will take place from 7 to 9 October 2023. Organized by the Peña Ciclista Ciutadella, the Volta a Menorca BTT offers the participants 3 routes to enjoy the MTB world in Menorca along some of the most emblematic spots on the island. This event always takes place at the same time as the Puente del Pilar.

This non-competitive tour is divided into three stages that start from three different cities: Ciutadella, Es Castell and Es Mercadal. The stages are of medium-high level, although it is not a race with timed sections, as the organizers search to generate a non-competitive atmosphere.

The number of participants for this edition is 450. The organizers are limiting the participants to the event and ensure an environmentally friendly participation. It has several refreshment stations in the three stages and ends with a unique party to celebrate the union between the participants during the event.

The stages

1st stage: Ciutadella

This first course is 55.74 km with a cumulative slope of 503 m. It begins and ends in Ciutadella, from which it leaves from the old town and heads towards the south coast of Ciutadella, through natural sections of interest such as the Santa Ana ravine. Much of the course is very smooth and with little slope, but you have to take into account the other difficulties of the course beyond the slope. During the route, you will be able to contemplate a large part of the ethnological and rural heritage of the island, through emblematic pristine beaches. The result: an incredible expanse of cliffs on the front line of the Ciutadella coast.

Types of roads: asphalt 48%, path 36%, trail 14%, bike lane 1%, wooden walkway 1%, beach 1%

2nd stage: Es Castell

The second stage is 70.74 km with a slope of 922 m. A route of high difficulty and it is also the longest of the BTT Volta a Menorca. It combines very rolling sections with other technically difficult sections along coastal cliffs over 80 m high. The organizers have divided this route into two different sections. The first section along old rural paths in the interior areas of Es Castell, Maó and Alaior. The second mainly along the Camí de Cavalls crossing S'Albufera des Grau, the most physically and technically demanding section of the stage, through emblematic spots such as S'Hort des Lleó, Playa de'n Tortuga, Sa Mesquida and the port of Mahón.

Types of roads: asphalt 49%, path 27%, rural track 21%, bike lane 2%, beach 1%

3rd stage: Mercadal

Although the distance is shorter than the day before, the end of the Volta a Menorca BTT takes place on a very difficult route, probably the highest of the whole event. A total of 62.06 km and a cumulative slope of 1087 m.

Starting and ending in Es Mercadal, this circular route combines some sections of rolling tracks with others that are very technical and require endurance. The percentage of asphalt is considerably less compared to the previous days and the route goes through many interior paths and wooded areas. The route passes places such as Sa Roca, S'Albufera, Fornells Bay, Cala Tirant, Cala Mica and Binimel.là. There. The arrival at Es Mercadal is certainly a sublime moment.

Types of roads: asphalt 41%, rural track 34%, path 20%, bike lane 1%, wooden walkway 1%, paved 1%, beach 1%
