Mal pas de Capolat

Description

The ascent to Mal Pas de Capolat is short but extremely intense. It reaches a maximum altitude of 1295 meters and covers a total distance of 5.1 kilometers, with an average gradient of 8.7% and an elevation gain of 444 meters. The ascent begins in Cal Majoral, and the first kilometer of this route winds through fields and farmhouses along a narrow but paved road. Over time, the road conditions worsen, and the average gradient doesn’t drop below 10%.

Shortly after, you encounter a sign indicating a 16% gradient, and it is precisely at this point where the asphalt changes to concrete (aiming to provide better traction). The average gradient in this second kilometer rises to 9%. Between kilometers 2 and 3, you enter a truly challenging area with gradients ranging from 15% to 20%, causing the bike to start slipping due to these steep inclines. If you look to your right, you can see the distance you’ve covered in just a few meters. It is during this part of the ascent that you pass through one of the most beautiful areas, Mal Pas de Capolat, and Balcó de Santa Aina, where the road cuts through imposing cliffs.

After this point, you encounter a brief respite before facing the final challenging ramps between kilometers 4 and 5.
