Description

The Arber Radmarathon is a cycling event that starts and finishes at the Neuer Dultplatz in Regensburg, Bavaria. The 43rd edition is scheduled for Sunday 25 July 2027, according to the official website. It is described by the organisers as a cycle-touring event without timing, and its road programme runs from Regensburg north-east into the Bavarian Forest, with the longest route, the 250 km Große Arberrunde, going all the way to the Arber. Around that sit shorter road options, MTB and gravel routes and a flat family ride.

Routes and distances

The 2027 programme lists four road routes. One link on the organiser’s site gives Tour D as 110 km, but the programme and start list say 100 km, which is the figure used here.

Tour A, the Große Arberrunde, covers 250 km with 3,750 m of climbing and gives the event its name. From the Neuer Dultplatz it heads through Falkenstein and Cham into the hills of the Bavarian Forest, then on through Kötzting and Lam to the Arber itself. After the Arber it drops to Bayerisch Eisenstein and Bodenmais, then loops back via Viechtach, Mitterfels and Wörth to the Dultplatz. The organiser publishes no individual climbs or gradients, only the place names along the route.

The organiser lists four feed stations on Tour A: Cham (km 57), Regenhütte (km 120), Kolmberg (km 170) and Untermiethnach (km 204).

Tour B, the Bayernwerk Arberrunde, covers 170 km with 2,400 m of climbing. It takes the same road through Cham, Kötzting, Viechtach, Kolmberg, Mitterfels and Untermiethnach but omits the Arber. Its feed stations are at km 57 (Cham), km 101 (Kolmberg) and km 134 (Untermiethnach).

Tour C, the Bayerwaldrunde, covers 125 km with 1,400 m of climbing. Tour D, the Panoramarunde, covers 100 km with 900 m of climbing.

The official 2027 information page lists mass starts at 06:00 for Tour A, 07:00 for Tour B, 07:40 for Tour C and 08:20 for Tour D, and says these times must be observed. The 2026 flyer listed cut-off times for the 250 km route of 11:00 at Cham (km 57), 13:00 at Regenhütte (km 120), 16:00 at Kolmberg (km 170) and 18:00 at Saulburg (km 204), with road routes closing at 19:00 on the Sunday; 2027 cut-offs have not been published. The organiser says every registered rider receives enough food and drink on the course, and lists Bavarian Red Cross medical care. The tour pages mention a GPX download for each route.

The fee table on the official information page, which shows no year and matches the 2026 flyer, has three tiers: to 15 May, to 15 July and from 16 July. Full details are on the official website.

Why ride it

The organiser lists eleven tours (four road, four MTB, two gravel and a family ride) plus a flat Retro-Arber ride from Regensburg. The 250 km road route takes riders out to the Arber in the Bavarian Forest. The event has no timing, so the day is about the ride rather than the clock. Every rider receives a meal and a drink via vouchers at the finish, and a breakfast of coffee, cake and pretzels is offered in the coffee tent before the start.

Where to stay

None of our certified cycling-friendly hotels are close to the start in Regensburg yet. The official information page lists several Regensburg hotels and offers showers and overnight stays at the RT-Halle, Lieblstraße 28, near the Dultplatz. With a 06:00 start for the 250 km route and bib collection on the Saturday, staying in or near Regensburg on the night before is the simplest plan.
