Baena- Almedinilla (ramal)

Description

An alternative branch of the Via Augusta allows you to keep pedaling through history, from Écija to Almedinilla. The first stage leads to Osuna via the GR-341 trail, part of the Caminos de Pasión network—ideal for gravel cycling and connecting heritage towns in inland Andalusia.

Osuna, once the Roman city of Urso, offers a rich array of monuments, including the Late Roman Necropolis, Roman baths, and theatre, all near the old university. The historic center features the Museum and Collegiate Church, while the Caldenegros Archaeological Park, city walls, and views from the Ermita de la Vía Sacra complete the visit.

The second stage heads to Puente Genil via the dirt track of the Vía Pecuaria de Ípora, crossing gentle hills, olive groves, and green corridors. From Estepa, the route alternates between road and trail, passing through Herrera and continuing along the Caminos de Pasión trail.

In Puente Genil, history resurfaces at the Puente de la Unión, the Harinera and La Alianza hydroelectric plant, and the Parish of Jesús Nazareno—symbols of the city’s cultural wealth.

The final stage leads to Almedinilla. After visiting the Roman Villa of Fuente Álamo, the route follows the Vía Verde del Aceite, one of Andalusia’s most important greenways. It passes through Navas del Selpillar, Lucena, Cabra, the Viaduct of La Sima, tunnels, and Doña Mencía, reconnecting with the main route in Luque.

This branch covers a total of 62.93 kilometers and has an elevation gain of 1,581 meters.
