La Cantabrona

09/05/2026 8:00 am

Description

La Cantabrona will take place on Saturday, May, with start and finish in Polanco, in the region of Cantabria, northern Spain. Celebrating its tenth edition, this well‑established road‑cycling event has become a key reference among cyclo‑sportive rides in northern Spain, combining endurance, scenery and a strong local cycling identity.

The route explores the interior of Cantabria, crossing rolling terrain and mountainous sections far from heavy traffic. Quiet secondary roads, constant elevation changes and sustained climbs define a landscape that is both challenging and highly scenic throughout the course.

La Cantabrona 2026 offers two distance options. The Gran Fondo route covers approximately 170 km with around 3,400 metres of elevation gain, designed for experienced cyclists seeking a demanding endurance challenge. The Medio Fondo option spans about 110 km, providing a shorter but still challenging ride that preserves the character of the event while being more accessible.

La Cantabrona is a non‑competitive cyclo‑sportive event, focused on personal challenge, endurance and controlled riding rather than racing. The combination of distance, accumulated climbing and varied terrain makes it a physically demanding experience suited to cyclists with solid preparation.

With its balanced mix of distance, elevation and landscape, strong organisation and growing reputation, La Cantabrona has established itself as a reference event for cyclists looking to experience the essence of road cycling in Cantabria.
