Description
Ocean Lava Lanzarote 2026 will take place on October, in Puerto del Carmen, on the island of Lanzarote, Canary Islands. This well‑known triathlon event is recognised for its spectacular volcanic setting and its strong commitment to environmental sustainability, making it a distinctive race within the European triathlon calendar.
The race is held in a coastal environment shaped by Lanzarote’s volcanic landscape. The swim takes place in open waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the bike segment runs on flowing road circuits through lava fields and coastal roads, and the run unfolds along the seafront, combining flat sections with exposed areas that demand good pacing and heat management.
Ocean Lava Lanzarote offers several race formats. The Olympic Distance includes a 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike and 10 km run, available both individually and in relay format. The Supersprint Distance is designed for beginners and younger athletes, featuring a 0.4 km swim, 11 km bike and 2.5 km run, while maintaining the same organisational standards as the longer race.
The event follows a non‑drafting format, emphasising individual effort, technical efficiency and endurance. Closed roads, controlled circuits and a strong focus on safety allow athletes to concentrate on performance while enjoying the unique island atmosphere.
With its dramatic volcanic scenery, international participation and continued sustainability initiatives, Ocean Lava Lanzarote has established itself as a reference triathlon for athletes seeking a challenging but accessible race in a truly unique natural setting.
