Description

Triatlón Cabo de Gata‑Níjar will take place on Sunday, October, in San José, within the Cabo de Gata‑Níjar Natural Park, in the province of Almería, southern Spain. Set in one of the most distinctive and protected coastal environments in Europe, this event combines endurance sport with an exceptional natural setting marked by volcanic landscapes, open coastline and Mediterranean light.

The race unfolds entirely inside the natural park, beginning with a sea swim in clear Mediterranean waters, followed by a road‑cycling segment that crosses volcanic terrain and coastal roads, and finishing with a demanding run along exposed paths and seaside areas. The combination of sun exposure, technical sections and open landscape creates a challenging race that rewards good pacing, resilience and experience.

Triatlón Cabo de Gata‑Níjar 2026 offers two formats. The middle distance includes a 1.9 km swim, an 80 km bike leg and a 21 km run, designed for experienced triathletes looking for a demanding endurance challenge. The Olympic distance consists of a 1.5 km swim, a 40 km bike leg and a 10 km run, providing a shorter but still challenging option within the same spectacular environment.

The event is held in a non‑drafting format, emphasising individual performance, technical efficiency and endurance rather than group dynamics. Traffic‑controlled courses and the strict environmental regulations of the natural park contribute to a race experience that is both demanding and respectful of its surroundings.

With its combination of challenging distances, unique Mediterranean scenery and a well‑established organisation, the Triatlón Cabo de Gata‑Níjar has established itself as a reference event in the Spanish triathlon calendar, attracting athletes who seek a race where natural beauty and sporting effort are inseparably linked.
