Description

GFNY La Vaujany is a cyclosportive in the Isère Alps that starts and finishes in the ski resort of Vaujany, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, and takes in the Col de la Morte, the Col d’Ornon and the climb of Alpe d’Huez. The most recent edition took place on Sunday 21 June 2026; the date of the next edition has not been announced yet. It belongs to the GFNY World Series, and race week is centred on Place de la Fare in Vaujany. The organiser’s course page describes a competitive long course and a non-competitive medium course.

Routes and distances

The routes below are those of the 2026 edition; the organiser has not yet published anything for the next one.

The long course covers 151 km with 4,172 m of climbing in 2026. It starts with a descent of about 30 km to Séchilienne, then climbs the Col de la Morte (15.1 km at an average of 6.7%, with a maximum of 10%), the Col d’Ornon and Alpe d’Huez.

Alpe d’Huez is about 12 km at an average above 8%, with the 21 switchbacks that the organiser’s own press release highlights. After the descent the day finishes where it started, in Vaujany, but this time uphill: a last 5 km with gradients of up to 14%. The same release notes that the race is often decided on that final ascent.

The medium course covers 60.8 km, according to the official course page (which does not state the edition). It is non-competitive and runs down the Romanche valley to Bourg d’Oisans, up Alpe d’Huez and on to the final climb to Vaujany. The organiser does not state its elevation gain.

We found no GPX files on the official site. Time limits and feed station locations are not stated on the course page, which says only that amenities are provided at each station. The rules we read (for the 15 June 2025 edition) require riders to be 18 or over and to hold a competition licence, a medical certificate dated less than one year before race day or an FFC online health attestation. Check the rules for the next edition.

Registration

Entry is through the registration page on the official website, which links to the booking system. The text of that page does not show prices, opening dates or the number of places, so check it directly. The rules say a bib is collected on site against the documents described above, and the 2026 race week included an expo and registration on the Saturday before the race.

Full details are on the official website.

Why ride it

The course combines three different climbs in one day, from the Col de la Morte to the Col d’Ornon and the switchbacks of Alpe d’Huez, according to the organiser’s route description. The final 5 km up to Vaujany, with pitches of up to 14%, means the day is not over when Alpe d’Huez is behind you. The event is part of the GFNY World Series and also offers a shorter medium course that still includes Alpe d’Huez and the climb to Vaujany. Race week is based in a single village, Place de la Fare in Vaujany, where the expo, registration and group rides are held.

Where to stay

The organiser recommends staying in Vaujany itself, where the event village is based during race week and where its accommodation page lists more than 3,000 beds. Arriving the day before means you can collect your bib at the expo, shake out your legs and avoid a long transfer on race morning. We do not yet have certified cycling-friendly hotels close to Vaujany, but you can browse more cycling-friendly accommodation and book early, as race week fills up.
