Description

The Mecklenburger Seen Runde (MSR) is a 300 km one-day cyclosportive around the Mecklenburg Lake District, starting and finishing at the Festwiese in the Kulturpark in Neubrandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The 13th edition is scheduled for 28–29 May 2027, with riders setting off either on the evening of Friday 28 May or in the early hours of Saturday 29 May. It is a mass-participation ride on public roads with transponder timing but no ranking: according to the 2027 rules, the German road traffic code applies throughout and the roads are not closed. What sets it apart is the format – a single lap of roughly 300 km through lakeland, with seven depots and a night-time start option.

Routes and distances

The organiser lists three events for 2027, and the MSR 300 is the main one.

The MSR 300 covers about 300 km with about 1,700 metres of climbing (2027 rules). It is a loop rather than an out-and-back: according to the rules, the planned route, still subject to official approval, runs Neubrandenburg, Feldberg, Neustrelitz, Schwarz, Röbel, Malchow, Nossentiner Hütte, Alt Schönau, Groß Vielen and back to Neubrandenburg. The organiser names no individual climbs, so this is a ride about endurance and pacing rather than big mountain passes.

The depots give the day its rhythm: Feldberg after 41 km, Neustrelitz at 83 km, Schwarz at 125 km, Röbel at 156 km, Nossentiner Hütte at 195 km, Alt Schönau at 242 km and Groß Vielen at 278 km, just 22 km from the finish. Each has its own cut-off time on 29 May, from 08:30 at Feldberg to 22:00 at Groß Vielen. The organiser recommends at least 1,000 km of training beforehand, including some rides of 100–130 km.

The Frauen MSR 100 is a women-only ride of 100 km that starts on the Saturday morning, run in a community spirit under the motto “My Happy Bike Day”, with an e-bike option. The organiser’s page gives no elevation figure. The MINI MSR is a children’s event, with registration opening on 6 January 2027.

In 2027 the MSR 300 start window is Friday 28 May from 20:00 to 22:00 and Saturday 29 May from 03:00 to 07:00, in blocks about ten minutes apart; guided group starts are also offered. The finish closes on Saturday 29 May at 24:00. There is no minimum average speed, and riders who miss a cut-off can use the free shuttle back to the start.

Depots offer bread, sausage and/or cheese, bananas, drinks, water, coffee, tea and milk, with gluten-free food on request. A helmet is mandatory, riders starting or finishing in darkness need working lights and reflectors, and support vehicles on the course are not allowed. The organiser publishes an official GPX file for the MSR 300 (the version online is the “2026 aktuell” file), and says final 2027 route details are expected around April 2027 because of road works.

Registration

Registration for the 2027 edition opened on 1 October 2026 at 20:27 and is made online. In the 2027 rules the entry fee is €175 until 1 November 2026, €185 until 20 December 2026, €195 until 10 January 2027 and €199 regular, rising to €205 (cash on site) from 10 May 2027. Riders can join a guided group for an extra €25.

Documents are collected in Neubrandenburg; the organiser’s FAQ gives Friday from 12:00 to 22:00 and Saturday from 02:30 to 09:00 for the MSR 300. The minimum age is 18, with exceptions for 16- and 17-year-olds with parental consent and an adult companion.

Full details are on the official website.

Why ride it

The route takes in the Mecklenburg Lake District, with the plan naming Feldberg, Neustrelitz, Röbel and Malchow along the way. The start offers a night-time option: riders can leave on Friday evening and ride through the night, or start in the early hours of Saturday. The event comes with the SattelFEST, its own expo in Neubrandenburg. The ride is also unusually well supported on the day, with seven depots, a course patrol, a rescue service at the start/finish area and a free shuttle for riders who cannot continue.

Where to stay

Neubrandenburg is the natural base: the start and the finish are both at the Festwiese, and with start windows on Friday evening and before dawn on Saturday, sleeping close to the start makes a big difference. The organiser says that looking up to 30 km from the start is realistic, and points riders to its own accommodation portal, to the email address [email protected] and to local tourist information offices. We do not yet list a certified cycling-friendly hotel near the start, but you can browse more cycling-friendly accommodation and book early, as rooms in town are in demand on the event weekend.
