España

Description

Spain is a paradise for cyclists. So much so that it is hard to choose a destination: more and more Spanish towns are working to make their territories ideal for road, MTB and gravel cycling.

Cycling in Spain

Why choose Spain as a cycling destination?

Spain has a pleasant climate and more than 300 days of sunshine a year. That means any time of year is a good time to enjoy the best of Spain.

That said, not all areas are equally recommendable at the same time. For example, for a cycling holiday in Mallorca the best option is from February to May and from September to November. If you travel to Lanzarote or Tenerife, October to January is ideal, although in the Canary Islands the stable climate all year round makes the territory almost always cyclable.

And if you plan to ride in northern Spain, the months with the best weather are those between May and October.

What are the best areas for cycling tourism in Spain?

Spain offers a very wide range of destinations that make cycling tourism easy, whether on road bike, MTB or gravel.

If you love coastal landscapes but also full of good mountain passes, you can visit Mallorca, the Canary Islands, the Costa Blanca, the Costa Brava or the Costa del Sol. If you prefer tough, overwhelming mountains, Asturias or the Pyrenees are unique destinations for their beauty and for the demands of some of their passes. Riding some of the routes on your road bike is a unique experience.

Spain is also a unique place full of greenways to ride by bike. Greenways are old disused railway lines that have been recovered so they can be used for walking or cycling. You can find greenways in places such as Álava, Albacete, Alicante, Almería, Badajoz, Cáceres, Cádiz, Cantabria, Córdoba, Girona, Gipuzkoa, Jaén, La Rioja, Murcia, Madrid, Navarra or Mallorca, among other destinations.
