Desafío Lagos de Covadonga La Vuelta

06/06/2026 8:00 am

Description

Desafío Lagos de Covadonga La Vuelta will take place on Saturday, June, with start in Cangas de Onís, in the Principality of Asturias. This iconic cyclo‑sportive event is one of the most emblematic challenges in Spanish cycling, allowing amateur riders to experience the legendary ascent to the Lagos de Covadonga, one of the most historic climbs of La Vuelta a España.

The route runs through the eastern Asturian countryside, combining rolling terrain, winding roads and the dramatic mountain landscapes of the Picos de Europa foothills. The event offers two distance options, both sharing the same defining finale: the demanding and iconic climb to the Lagos de Covadonga.

The Gran Fondo route covers approximately 111 km with around 2,300 metres of elevation gain, including previous ascents that prepare riders for the final climb. The Medio Fondo option spans roughly 99 km with about 1,280 metres of elevation gain, offering a slightly more accessible challenge while still preserving the essence of the event.

Desafío Lagos de Covadonga La Vuelta 2026 is a non‑competitive cyclo‑sportive event, focused on personal challenge, endurance and controlled riding rather than racing. The final ascent to the Lagos, with its steep gradients and legendary status, represents a powerful personal test for every participant.

With decades of history, a route deeply linked to professional cycling and one of the most recognisable mountain finishes in Spain, the Desafío Lagos de Covadonga remains a reference event for cyclists looking to measure themselves against one of the sport’s most iconic climbs while enjoying the unique landscapes of Asturias.
