Why should you experience the Vuelta al Teide?

A cycling event, whose epicenter is the ascent of Mount Teide, is already a strong argument in itself. Climbing this colossus of Tenerife is not within everyone’s reach, and being able to enjoy it by sharing a hobby with many other cycling enthusiasts is a plus. In addition, the advantage of being able to choose between two possible distances for the ascent is an added bonus.

On the other hand, the registration fees are designed for all budgets, so there is no excuse not to register.

Distances and Routes?

Vuelta del Teide has two distances: 175 km and 4,400 m vertical drop, or the possibility of a half-return to Teide, with 95 km and 2,000 m positive slope.

The long route runs along the roads with the most spectacular landscapes of the Island of Tenerife, including passing through Parque Rural de Teno (Puerto de Masca) and Parque Nacional de El Teide  (ascent to Teide), with 30 km to over 2,000 m altitude. It will be 175 km and 4,400+ m, on the same roads used by professional cycling teams in their season training.

The short route also ascents to Mount Teide, till 2,361 m altitude, but avoiding climbs such as Masca. Starting in the town of Santiago del Teide, while the entire route departs from Puerto de la Cruz.

Where to stay for the Vuelta al Teide?

Santiago del Teide and Puerto de la Cruz are the two starting points for the Vuelta al Teide and the Half Vuelta al Teide, respectively. In both cases, you can have specialized cycling accommodations. But if you opt for accommodations in other municipalities, you will find a wide range to enjoy a perfect cycling holiday in Tenerife.

Any pre-race recommendations to consider

It’s not every day that you climb a 30 km ascent. So the best thing to do if you want to be ready for the day of the event is to train on long climbs, because these are the ones that will best help you impose your tempo. Patience and endurance in the moments when you feel weaker will be necessary, and it will always be better if you have already experienced a similar situation in your previous training sessions.
