Grand Villa Penon – Guadalest – La Nucía
Description
Circular road cycling route with start and finish at Grand Villa Penon – Guadalest – La Nucía, designed for riders with a good fitness level who want a demanding and rewarding ride. The route covers 70.11 km with 1,382 m of elevation gain, combining short steep ramps, steady climbs and long, fast descents.
Leaving Calpe, the ride begins with several punchy climbs that quickly warm up the legs before heading towards Altea, where the profile becomes smoother with technical descents and flowing sections. From Altea la Vella towards Callosa d’en Sarrià, the route follows quiet, well‑surfaced roads with a more constant gradient, gradually building fatigue.
The highlight of the route is the Guadalest climb, a long and sustained ascent with regular gradients and spectacular views over the reservoir and surrounding mountains. After Guadalest, the route continues through the inland villages of the Marina Baixa, linking several shorter but demanding climbs.
The return towards the coast is marked by a long, fast descent that is both scenic and enjoyable, allowing riders to recover before the final kilometres. The last part of the route includes a few rolling sections and short rises before arriving back at Gran Villa Peñón. A varied and characterful road ride that showcases the best road cycling terrain of the Costa Blanca interior.
