Desafío La Titánica de Gran Canaria

Description

The 2021 edition of Desafío La Titánica de Gran Canaria means a before and after in terms of the route. In previous years, we could still speak of a demanding circuit, since this edition is a circuit that only suits a few.

The difficulty of this 134 km route lies in overcoming the very hard mountain pass of the Valle de las Lagrimas, with maximum slopes of 25% and whose average slope is about 8%. A section so extremely demanding that in the first edition many of the participants had to leave the test or be dragged to the top in the van that was in charge of picking up the stragglers.

Before we start the conquest of the Valle de las Lagrimas, there are two more climbs, certainly not to be underestimated, but which seem insignificant compared to the colossus in the Carrizal de Tejeda.

This is a route that can be classified as very difficult to almost impossible, only suitable for the most experienced. We recommend cycling with someone who can help you if you suffer a bonk in the middle of one of the extreme slopes. However, you can enjoy the unique landscape and the peaks, with an altitude of 1,400 m.

Among the anecdotal facts, it is worth noting that the godfather of this route in the 2021 Desafío la Titánica was Perico Delgado, who did not hesitate to baptize the infernal mountain pass of the Valle de las Lagrimas as the Valle del Terror. This has shocked anyone who thought it was a good idea to register for the event. Who knows if there has been more than one regret…
