Gran Fondo Strade Bianche – Gran Fondo
Description
The Gran Fondo leaves Siena from the Fortezza Medicea at 9:00 and heads out on a route the organiser calls very bumpy and hilly: no excessively long climbs, but constant ups and downs. The first of ten gravel sectors, Vidritta (2.1 km), arrives at kilometre 20.5, followed by Bagnaia (5.8 km, up to 15%) and Radi (4.4 km, up to 12%).
The middle of the day belongs to Piana (6.4 km), Serravalle (9.3 km) and San Martino in Grania, the longest sector at 9.5 km, with 5.6 km uphill and gradients up to 12%. Of the 137.7 km, 42.6 km are unpaved, with about 2,000 m of climbing in total.
The last sectors bite: Guistrigona, Montaperti, Colle Pinzuto and Le Tolfe, where the gravel reaches 18%. Back in Siena, paved ramps of up to 16% lead to a short descent and the finish in the Piazza del Campo.
