Karrantza – Puerto La Escrita – La Herbosa – Balmaseda – Villasana de Mena – Bercedo – Los Tornos – Lanestosa – Ubal

Steep cycling route for road cycling… in the middle of the mountains. We set off for Balmaseda from Karrantza with two climbs in sight: La Escrita – crowned by the bust of the Virgen del Suceso, who watches over the valley from its privileged vantage point – and La Herbosa. The route to the first town in Bizkaia runs through forests dotted with farmhouses and impossible curves.

Once in Balmaseda, we cross the medieval old town and take the road to Bercedo (Burgos). Here we join the N-629, which will take us back to Enkarterri through one of the most beautiful ascends we will have the chance to climb: Los Tornos. Its 920 m of altitude show us the immense karstic panoramas of Lanestosa in all its grandeur.

We will finish the route in Karrantza, the largest valley in Bizkaia, after crossing a new mountain pass: Alto de Ubal.
