Sopuerta – Torre Loizaga – Kolitza

Description

Route starting and ending in Sopuerta, on the border with the old mining area of Biscay. The route will take us through the mountains of Galdames to La Arboleda, to discover the old open pits, now transformed into lakes and green spaces. We will pass by the Museo de la Minería del País Vasco and the impressive cut of the old Concha II mine.

From there we will return to Galdames through the northern part of the municipality. In the district of Concejuelo, in the middle of the txakoli vineyards, we will enjoy Torre Loizaga, a 14th century fortress that houses the largest collection of Rolls Royces in Europe. If we resist the temptation to stop, we will continue to Artzentales, where we will begin the ascent of Mount Kolitza, one of the most emblematic peaks of Enkarterri.

Its 879 m of altitude, crowned by a Romanesque hermitage, offer a magnificent view of Balmaseda and the neighboring valleys. The summit's visibility and its exceptional acoustics have earned it the title of Monte Bocinero.
