Gallarta – Galdames – Pico la Cruz

MTB cycling route. We start the route in Gallarta, in front of the Museo de la Minería del País Vasco, and we head towards Galdames through the Montes de Triano (Protected Biotope), known since Roman times for the abundance and quality of its iron.

Pico de la Cruz is one of its summits and offers a superb panoramic view of the Galdames Valley from its rocky and clear summit. On its slopes is the Cueva de Arenaza, with Paleolithic cave paintings.

On the way back to Gallarta we follow the Vía Verde de los Montes de Hierro (Greenway), the longest in Bizkaia. The route follows the road of the old mining railway and enters enclaves of great ecological value. Mining remains abound throughout the route, especially in the Barbadún river basin, a 15-km route that forms a protected Monumental Complex.
