Ruta Ecoemocional Eurovelo 8 – Extensión subida Santa Llucia

Description

This eco‑emotional route along the EuroVelo 8 corridor with an extension to the Hermitage of Santa Llúcia blends coastal flow, natural scenery and a final climbing challenge that gives the ride its defining character. The route begins smoothly from Alcossebre, following the coastline with light gradients that allow the cyclist to find rhythm before entering the protected landscapes of the Sierra de Irta.

Once on the EuroVelo track, the terrain stays mostly gentle and rolling. Short climbs around Ribamar and Badum introduce brief efforts, while descents toward Argilaga and Pebret keep the ride dynamic. The mix of sea views, Mediterranean vegetation and quiet gravel sections creates an immersive coastal experience. Reaching Torre Badum is one of the key highlights—a short, punchy ascent leading to one of the most iconic viewpoints in the area.

After Badum, the terrain flows naturally back toward Alcossebre, offering a smooth transition before the final challenge. The climb to Santa Llúcia then becomes the decisive moment of the day: sustained gradients, ramps above 14% and a rapid elevation gain that require pacing and focus. The panoramic view of the Mediterranean from the top makes the effort worthwhile, closing the sporting section of the route with a strong emotional reward.

The descent from the hermitage is fast and controlled, and as the route returns to the coastline, the ride concludes with a well‑deserved gastronomic pause. Alcossebre’s traditional cuisine—ranging from fresh seafood dishes and suquet de peix to rice specialties like arroz a banda—offers the perfect way to recover after the effort and connect with the local identity through its most authentic flavours. The combination of sport, scenery and gastronomy brings the experience to a satisfying and memorable close.
