Description
The final stage of the Via Augusta cycling route leads to Almedinilla and is the most mountainous and scenic of the entire journey. Departing from Baena, the route climbs eastward toward Luque, entering a rugged landscape of ravines, forests, and panoramic views within the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park.
The ascent passes Cerro Abuchite and the Dehesa de la Lastra farmhouse with its unique dolmen, then descends through Fuente del Carmen toward Carcabuey and Priego de Córdoba. After a short road section, the route continues through olive groves along the Camino del Hoyo, crossing La Concepción and following the CO-8208 through Los Ríos and La Carrasca until reaching Almedinilla.
Almedinilla, located in the Caicena River valley, offers a rich concentration of archaeological sites, including the Roman Villa of El Ruedo, the Iberian settlement of Cerro de la Cruz, the Historical-Archaeological Museum, and sculptures of Hypnos and the Hermaphrodite. The journey ends at the Clock Tower, marking the conclusion of a cycling adventure filled with nature, history, culture, and gastronomy.
This final stage covers 80.6 kilometers and has a total elevation gain of 1,436 meters.
