Cordoba – Montoro
Description
The eighth stage will take us to Montoro. We will leave Córdoba via the national road, passing through Alcolea and crossing the Puente Mocho until we reach the CO-3103, a road with constant rolling hills among olive groves that leads to Villafranca de Córdoba. From there, we will take the N-IV national road to El Carpio and later switch to the left side of the Autovía del Sur before reaching Pedro Abad, allowing us to enjoy a traffic-free approach to Montoro. We will enter the town via the path that passes in front of the remains of the Roman road, part of the GR-48 trail.
This stage covers a distance of 54.46 kilometers and has a total elevation gain of 649 meters.
The path runs parallel to the Guadalquivir River and leads us to the bridge, where we can enjoy an excellent panoramic view before entering Epora (Montoro), which was a municipium flavium and an Iberian-Roman settlement.
Its strategic position linking Córdoba with the eastern regions left behind many preserved artifacts, which can be seen at the Archaeological Museum, reached after passing the Church of San Bartolomé Apóstol and the statue of Epora Eterna.
If we decide to stop in the city, we can also visit other points of interest in Montoro, such as the Thoracata Sculpture, the Church of San Juan de Letrán, and the Mirador del Puente de Madera.
