Ruta Castillos de la Segarra

Description

Essential itinerary for enthusiasts in the history of Catalonia. The Segarra region, recognized as the land of Castillos due to the large amount of fortifications present, some of which are accessible to visit. During the XI-XII centuries, in this territory crossed by the Valle del Río Sió, the border between the few Christian Catalans and the Arabic al-Andalus was outlined. This fact made the area an insecure place with notable defensive needs. Starting from the town of Cervera, accessible by train, this circular route can be completed in a single day. Almost all the route can be done in Grave Modality, only 500 m before reaching the Castle of Les Sitges, where we find an ancient medieval road, but with skill and patience it overcomes perfectly. They will be able to visit the Històrica Ciudad de Cervera with its University of the 18 Les Sitges, the castle of Florejacs, the castle of Pallargues, El Castillo de Ratera, El Castillo de Conbabella, the castle of the Aran and the castle of Montcortès.
